A little shop in Kathmandu called Third World Craft is a non-profit organisation that is dedicated to empowerment of disadvantages women and artisans by providing them with appropriate skills and training of modern techniques like web site development and Internet. The small work shop makes custom orders for the purchasers. The hand made paper products like shopping bags, jewellery boxes, greeting cards, photo albums and photo frames are manufactured from lokta while combined with vegetable fibres, cotton rags and other raw materials.
This is one of the most popular handicrafts that are exported all over the world. The clothing and garment collection of the shop ranges from embroidered garments, ready made cotton garments, silk apparel, cotton apparel, jackets and ponchos. The shop offers hand made purses and bags including shoulder bags, tiny purses, passport bags, pencil cases and camera bags. The wooden figures and masks include human faces, gods and goddesses, puppets and traditional dolls.
Herbal products offered by the shop include herbal tea, natural soap, eye pillows, air fresheners and essential oils. Wood and metal carving products include photo frames, mirror frames and other wooden accessories. The silver jewellery is hand crafted including Tibetan pendants, Tibetan Ghaus, silver necklaces, gemstones and earrings. Products of felt woollen include shoes, shoulder bags, purses and room slippers. Fashion jewellery are wristbands, pendants, necklaces, finger rings, wooden beads, yak-bone malas and key chains.
